    After a planned rest day on Friday I ended up doing a last minute 16 hour day yesterday, and in order to net make the day a total waste I walked home afterward, which was a good 9kms over 1 hour and 40....
    Woke up from a paltry three hours of sleep to take someone to the airport and have been utterly wrecked. I've been dozing every time I sat still, so have decided to take another rest day.

    The good news is, I've been eating really well unlike December.

    I'll have a workout in the morning before heading out to watch some live sport!

    Spent a long day walking around Sydney Olympic Tennis Centre today, watching the likes of Dominika Cibulkova, Victor Troicki, Monica Puig, Caroline Wozniacki and the one, the only Swiss Miss, Martina Hingis.
    Did decently well with the eating all day and drank only sugarless soft drink (which, granted, are shit) and water... Did have some curry sans rice and a lamb samosa for dinner though.

    Rounded out the day with a short workout consisting of 3 brisk rounds of rope followed by smith machine bench.

    Still haven't weighed myself but I have definitely lost a couple of kilos so far.

    Sober January is going fucking swimmingly. Ate decently well over the day, until a mate came into my work with a ritter sport chocolate, which I devoured with extreme prejudice... finished the day's eating with a teriyaki beef bento box, and skipped the rice. Didn't have enough willpower to resist the small portion of udon noodles though.

    Got into the gym and did my first half hour on the treadmill since last Tuesday, and got through it comfortably, if not with a little fatigue, and followed it up with a round of speed rope followed by 5x20 leg presses with the 8 plate.

    I haven't quite broken to that next level of motivation yet... I'd happily still skip every workout and eat chips and donuts after work every day... but I guess I'm still only ten days in.

    Not my best effort in the gym, but I'm chalking it up anyway, as it was, in any definable way, a quantum leap ahead of the pathetic excuse-making and workout-dodging I did all the way through December.

    Managed a paltry nine minutes on the treadmill before defaulting to some light weight training today... it's about 40 degrees in Sydney today, and humid (not to mention our absurdly high UV index)... when it's that bloody hot, it reaches every corner of every room even with air conditioning. It felt physically cool when I entered the gym, yet after 90 seconds on the treadmill I had dry mouth (despite chugging nearly a litre of water before I started) and within 5 minutes sweat was pouring off me.

    Given that I have a day of work ahead, I decided to call it off. Next proper workout will be after work tomorrow, when I only have a cool shower and bed ahead of me.

    Just ate a doner box with meat, Greek salad and tabouli replacing the fries. Fatty, but zero carb.

    Managed to falter last night and after my Wednesday night bag of crisps (which I decided would be a thing), I managed to inhale two ritter sport chocolate blocks on the way home. Ah well.

    Had a kickarse healthy salad for lunch today, but had schnitzels for breakfast and dinner (no fries or any shit like that, just a schnitzel from the same store on the way to, and on the way home from work).

    Spent a wee bit too much time watching Johanna Konta trounce Genie Bouchard in the tennis, so got to the gym later than expected, but did my half hour treadmill workout comfortably.

    Honestly feel like I dropped a couple of kilos right away this month but hit something of a wall due to sloppy eating.

    Before I go any further:



    Splendid.

    So, off the funny, irregular sleeps of a typical working week, I had another double rest day over Friday and Saturday, and decided to go in today off a long, healthy sleep, rather than pushing the limits to exhaustion and discouraging myself. Late last night as I watched fringe-level ATP tennis, I got a call off a coworker asking if I could work this afternoon, to which I agreed. So got an early night and went in today at around lunchtime.

    Among other things, I replaced the batteries to my scales and weighed in for the first time since October, and got a shocking read of 103.6kgs (228.4lbs)... :sad5 thankfully, after my first good sweat in two days, I weighed in post workout at 101kgs (222.67lbs)... undoubtedly a little goop and fluid in my system. Was hoping to clear double digits comfortably by month's end.

    My workout today consisted of two vigorous rounds of speed rope followed by half an hour on the treadmill... decided to do a rope warm-up before the treadmill today as I'd been having some minor joint pain.

    Also wanted to leave the gym feeling a little bit spritely, as I have a shift ahead of me to think about now...

    Just weighed in post workout at 101.1kgs (222.89lbs), but was still sweating for another half an hour after weigh in... I'll weigh in again in the morning before breakfast for a true read, which I assume will be below 101kgs.

    Ate a doner box with tabouli and Greek salad with garlic and chilli sauces for breakfast/lunch, and just a protein bar as I spent most of the day napping and watching tennis. Did two decent rounds of speed rope before a half hour treadmill workout.
    Still feeling hard and forced all the way on the treadmill, hoping as I drop more lard my body runs more optimally...

    As far as the eating went, did pretty good today... light breakfast (bought a bacon and egg roll from a shop near work, minus the bread... so just two hard fried eggs and two small rashers of fatty bacon. Had a prosciutto, egg and goat's cheese salad for lunch, followed by some teriyaki chicken for dinner sans rice. Also ate three protein bars right after dinner as well.
    Work consisted of some deliveries and worked up a sweat hauling kegs around. Got into the gym just in time to squeeze in a treadmill workout and it's really starting to get fucking tedious. I've used it as a mainstay in my routine for a couple of years now and I feel I'll start to go backwards soon. I'm gonna try ten rounds of speed rope tomorrow for a more dynamic and varied cardio workout.

    DAY 72: Workouts: 23

    Just weighed in post-workout at 101.5kgs (223.77lbs). A full kilo heavier than yesterday morning.
    I'm none too discouraged by this, in fact, I expected it as prior weigh-ins have been after good sweat sessions. Yesterday it topped 40 degrees in Sydney AGAIN and I couldn't be fucked working out in that heat. Got into the gym tonight, later than I really should have due to watching tennis and got through ten minutes on the treadmill before doing three rounds of speed rope.

    I could tell well before I touched the scales that I hadn't sweated nearly as much out from my shirt alone. I ate alright so I think I'm looking at a break even scenario, which is fine. I know from experience that if you keep at it in the long run, you're bound to win the war.

    There are also positives to take away from this. In years past I've simply skipped workouts when I "wasn't feeling it", so the fact that I've managed 13 workouts over 19 days is a massive win, especially considering the heat wave and tennis... I also said long ago this 100 day challenge wasn't to be about misery-inducing extremes.

    , weighed in post workout just now at 100.2kgs... I feel confident that I'll crack double digits after a sleep and a morning slash.

    Eating was great during the day and stayed pretty good until after 5pm when I fell for the usual pitfalls... a few fries here and there and some fried stuff... all in all was pretty good though. Two decent rounds of speed rope followed by the half hour treadmill... it all went well and my weight is following suit. Trust the process.

    Morning weigh in: 99.2kgs (218.70lbs)


    This was a post-workout weigh in, weighed in yesterday at 98.9kgs post workout.

    So, it looks as though I reached my weight loss goal with nine days to spare! My objective was not necessarily to lose a certain amount of weight, but more to clear double digits comfortably, and I did that yesterday, so treated myself to a pasta dinner last night along with some yoghurt for dessert. Treated myself again today for a Vietnamese pork roll and some Indian curry cans rice, but with a naan and a samosa. Had two more large tubs of yoghurt over the course of the day.

    The goal now is to behave myself until at least Saturday night when I have family visiting from NZ and junk food will inevitably follow.

    The workouts were both pure cardio, which isn't ideal. My rope form is getting better, and my clothes are much looser. I estimate my true weight loss to be somewhere arounf 6kgs for the month.

    Managed a pretty basic workout last night after work, consisting only of five decently vigorous rounds of speed rope. Went in before breakfast today and did three rounds of rope followed by half an hour on the treadmill...

    Just ate a steak with a cheese slice melted over the top of it with seeded mustard.

    Goal is to crack below 98kgs by Saturday weigh in!

    Didn't get around to a weigh in this morning.

    Ate a couple of cheese slices and two small tins of tuna for breakfast before an absurdly untaxing day of work, at which I ate my usual smoked salmon salad. Stopped at the Chinese takeaway on the way home and had two boxes they make after 5pm with half meat half rice... skipped the rice altogether, one was Mongolian beef, the other spicy lemon chicken...

    Did five moderate rounds of speed rope followed by half an hour on the treadmill. Energy levels were good throughout.

    My effort has been nil since my relatives from New Zealand were in town, but it was worth it to be honest. Plenty of beers and rich food!
    The diet has come back to Normal in days since but as of yet haven't made it back into the gym, and not confident about this week in terms of workouts.
    Now know that I'll be doing nigh on 18 hours at work this Saturday, and Friday in on average about a 12 hour day. I'm not stupid enough to try to work out the night before the marathon triple shift, so that immediately eliminates two of the next three possible workout days.
    I'll try to work out Sunday, before I'm off to play tennis that night (as me and my mates are too crap to consider it exercise), before another mate visits town on the Monday and we're due to sink a few beers!

    Then, that weekend I have a concert on the Saturday night!

    It is of paramount importance that I stick to my diet between these times (other than hangover days, as I'm not a sadist).

    Well, that's not nearly as bad as I'd thought it would be.

    Moderate February was a spectacular fail in all regards. Health, drinking, saving money. A complete fucking disaster. :lol: Ah well, I always knew I'd have my usual March/April/May to focus again and the results are always good. I added another month on this time, because why the fuck not.

    Thanks mate! It's kind of a rambling journal at this point! But it helps keep me motivated! especially recording my failures as well as my victories (so to speak).

    Well, logged the first workout of the month this afternoon, a brisk half an hour on the treadmill before heading to work. Eating has been pretty good since Monday (although smashed down a bag of crisps after work, after eating a beef salad for dinner)...

    Should also mention that I had a big blowout on Sunday. Because I'd been pulling out insane hours at work this week (covering for two sick people) I missed my assigned "last meal" day, which absolutely fucking blows. I was gonna tough it out, but decided fuck it, I deserve at least that before my big health kick. Especially since the last two days of my work week comprised a total of a total of 30 hours up and about on my feet, the second of which was the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade day, one of the busiest days in the city of the year, and an absurdly physical and taxing 16 hour marathon work day.
    Since then, I'm back on the wagon and was pleased with my first workout.

    So after dumping some goop from my system with at least one workout, some absolutely stellar eating and several unscheduled long shifts at work, I have some weight loss to show for it. I certainly blew my allotment of fat out of the water today, having eaten a doner kebab box with salad (no fries) for lunch (no real breakfast to speak of)... then tearing into a box of cheese slices I had in the fridge (twelve of the fucking things over the course of the day). I'm normally quite good with just eating one or two at a time, but I just had a typical "greedy" day I guess.

    Weigh in was pre workout and did just my second session today (due to all those long days). Just the half hour on the treadmill.
    With 18 days left I still consider 10kgs lost in the first month to be a realistic target!

    Well, the eating has been exemplary.
    I have managed two workouts in the last two days, but as can be expected in the throes of a carb-depletion programme, energy levels have been exceedingly low.
    Last night I managed three brisk rounds of speed rope and tonight it was twenty minutes on the treadmill. This was not a mental lack of drive, this was definite physical fatigue.
    The heavy day of hauling stock couldn't have helped matters, but it's frustrating to fall short of what I would normally consider my bare minimum.

    I'm going to have to shift my focus from repetitive, thudding cardio. It isn't working this week.
