    Last weigh in (24/6/2017): 94.9kgs (209.22lbs)

My weigh ins are less routine at the moment so I think I'll start doing my weigh ins this way, just record the last one I did. Saturday morning is normally a good time as well as it generally comes off the back of five days of excellent diet and exercise.
My weeks have followed a familiar pattern over the last three weeks: excellent diet and exercise during my working week, Tuesday to Saturday, followed by excellent workouts and terrible eating on my Sunday/Monday weekend. The good news is my weight is still trending downward (albeit slowly). This isn't likely to change in the next two weeks as the British Lions vs the All Blacks games fall on the next two Saturdays, so it's a foregone conclusion that I'll be having beers. We're also in the thick of the grascourt tennis season, so each Sunday night, a tennis final and a pasta cookup have been my little treat. And while this isn't producing the rapid weight loss I deire, I actually feel for the first time maybe ever that I'm nailing the "balanced" lifestyle of eating, the occasional beer and exercise. I could see myself living this way long term once I reach whatever my weight goal is. Once Wimbledon finishes I'll have basically bang-on two weeks until I fly to Europe on holiday, so I can buck previous trends, exercise hard and diet well and head off to holiday on a high.

Friday and Saturday were bereft of workouts as I did consecutive 16 hour shifts, although the eating was excellent and I had a few pints of low carb beer after work each time. As mentioned above, Sunday night was a massive pasta cookup while I watched the finals of Halle, Birmingham and Queens Club and eating wise, today was an utter stinker.

There were however two gangbuster workouts logged in. Last night I got a completely empty gym for the entirety of my workout which was utter bliss. Half an hour on the treadmill followed by my usual chest and shoulder circuit: 2x12 shoulder presses, 2x12 front delt raises, 2x12 shoulder flyes, 2x12 smith bench, 2x12 dumbell bench press, 2x12 dumbell chest flyes.

Tonight was the half hour on the treadmill followed by a bicep/back circuit consisting of 2x12 ez bar curls, 2x12 hammer curls, 2x12 cross body curls, 2x12 lat pull downs, 2x12 seated rows, 2x12 bent over dumbell rows.

I've been walking around all week with a general dull muscle ache which has been weirdly motivating and somewhat satisfying, a reminder that my body is still burning calories well after the workout. Time will tell if I can crack the much vaunted 90kgs threshold by the end of July.

    Morning weigh in: 95.1kgs (209.66lbs)

Well this has crept up fast... my proposed four months is nearly over and it looks as though I'll be able to say I've lost 10kgs after some very up-and-down habits.
Hit the gym yesterday before work and did only the half hour treadmill, and just now got in after work for one round of speed rope before the biceps/back circuit.
Eating has been great and look to break below 95kgs again for my "official" 1st of July weigh in on Saturday morning.

Well, what an epic fail the last couple of weeks have been. Between Wimbledon and the Lions tour of NZ I've been on a steady diet of beers, terrible food and being glued to the TV rather than the treadmill.
With the Championships ending tomorrow night and my Eurotrip two weeks away, I have the opportunity to "pull this month out of the fire" like I did in April. I weighed in at 99.8kgs yesterday morning, which tells me I have a substantial fluid flush in my system. I work tonight until 9 so I'm not gonna work out unless I get a serious early mark. Tomorrow I'll have a day off, so I'll get a workout in before enjoying some food while I watch Federer hoist his 8th Wimbledon, then I'm back on the wagon until I have a Blame Canada burger the Friday night before I fly.
If I see a 95 on the scales by the time I go I'll be happy.
It all begins with acknowledging my failures though.

Well, logged the second workout of the month and it feels good. No idea what my weight is right now, but I look a little bit fucking fat. No point fretting over it though, can only focus on finishing the month on a high.
Cracked out my half hour treadmill and followed it with the bicep circuit consisting of hammer curls, ez bar curls and cross body curls.
Ate a breadless burger for lunch without fries, with some pan fried squid on the side... the chefs replaced the bread with slices of lettuce so I could pick the thing up... I didn't ask them to do that, but it was awesome!
Very early start tomorrow so won't be getting much sleep... whether or not I work out depends on what time I finish, but I'll do my best.

Well, I don't know how wise it was, but I backed up a 5:30am-6:30pm work day (that's a 4am wake up off about three hours sleep) with a workout consisting of my half hour of treadmill and a shoulder workout (1x12 shoulder barbell presses, 2x12 front shoulder raises, 2x12 shoulder flyes).
I nailed it pretty easily and look a little thinner for it, as my body tries to flush out two weeks of bloat.
As is always the case when I do the early start, my eating was shocking yesterday. It started well enough but by midday I was bloody starving, and a guy from a neighbouring restaurant brought in a bloody pizza (had two slices). I also ate a lot at night time before the workout. But, as stated above, no use fretting over it. If this is my version of being terribly unhealthy (workout and all), I'm a quantum leap better than I was this time three years ago. Will weigh in on Sunday post-workout.

I have been eating sporadically great over the past couple of weeks, following the usual pattern of excellent while at work, shocking on my nights off as I stretch out and watch shows. It's all somewhat connected to the return of my drinking habit/warming up for Europe. Drinking has always brought bad eating with it in my world, but it must be said that I'm still a lot better than I used to be. Settling for some salmon sushi a couple of nights ago for instance, where I would've been slamming down my metric weight in McDonald's a couple of years back.
I haven't hit my desired target before Eurotrip, but then, I have been sabotaged by night after night of quality rugby in the weeks connecting Roland Garros and Wimbledon; something I've never had to worry about before. Given it's 12 yeas between Lions tours of NZ, I was not for making myself feel guilty for enjoying a pint or six each time they played, but it was destined to always hamper my results. I'm still pretty happy with where I've ended up; well below 100kgs, hopefully looking down at 95.something on Friday morning.

Ate decently well today and hit the gym tonight for my half hour treadmill workout. Back to work tomorrow for the wind down four shifts, where the eating is generally excellent.

    @NSFW and @oldjoe

How's it going gents? I'm on the back end of my two month holiday carrying around a bunch of holiday chub and was wondering if you two self-motivating chaps were interested in a challenge thread of sorts.
I was thinking we could make October a kick starter to better things! Given that we have slightly different goals and patterns/regimes, a pure weight loss based challenge wouldn't be appropriate... for example, I've no idea how much I weigh right now, but I'll have a lot of goop and fluid to flush out of my system off the back of two months touring various corners of Europe, drinking beer and eating all the rich foods I want, so kicking into gear of that kind of inactivity would put me at an advantage. So this is what I was thinking:
We mark ourselves on a points system every day of October. We can score a maximum of 6 points per day taking diet and exercise into consideration, with up to three points allotted to each. We'd be working on an honesty system based purely on what we know of our own fitness and the goals to which we aspire.
In my case (carb depletion and cardio based workout), a sample scoring criteria for a day would go something like this:

    DIET:
    0
    - Terrible, terrible eating based on personal goals. Slammed junk food carbs (fries, burgers and that kind of shite) and sugar throughout the whole day. This might have been a designated cheat day or just an old fashioned slip-up. They'd both be scored the same.
1 - Not a fail, but a minimal score. No "junk food" carbs, but failed at carb depletion all the same. What I'd call a sushi day, which is one of my biggest downfalls. So not technically bad food, but not permitted by my diet.
2 - A silver medal eating day. Usually on my diet it involves successful carb depletion but overloading on fats (especially saturated) and portion sizing. The kind of day when I order the fattiest possible carb free option at work... like having a lean steak with creamy coleslaw rather than salad, or a breadless cheeseburger or something.
3 - The gold medal eating day. High protein, minimal carbs, minimal saturated fats, and sensible portions.

    EXERCISE:
    0 -
Easy one to explain. No workout. Rest days and lazy fail days are scored the same, obviously.
1 - The one where you pretty much just show up, or what you'd consider a "bare minimum". For me, that's my 30 minute treadmill workout and nothing else.
2 - The ideal workout. For me that might be a 30 minute treadmill along with a simple weight circuit and some floor exercises.
3 - The beast mode workout, a rarity for me but maybe not for you guys. That workout where the very fact that you tore through the thing will motivate you for the entire next week. For me that might be my 30 min treadmill, weight circuit, floor exercises and some fast, brisk Jump Rope.

Whoever scores the most by the end of the month will be the "winner". Nothing at stake but better health. Stuff like weight or mass can be added for shits and giggles if we all want, but it will mean nothing in terms of scoring. Effort and execution are the main criteria.

If either or both of you guys are keen, reply in here and I'll get a separate thread started just before October. It'll be up to you guys what constitutes a scoring criteria for your days.
If not, I'll just continue entering into this cringey journal throughout October. :good

Sounds great to me. Really simple and easy process to follow which is spot on. I need the regime too as I'm at a point where focus is something I think I'll suffer from.

Mentioned in my own thread I've been really ill off the back of a couple of week light training duties so right now I'm physically shite, but mentally ready to push myself. I'll look forward to this. Not going to get to the gym til the 1st Oct either as I still need a couple more days rest.

Ain't bothered about winning, just doing the best for my health, really want to put myself in a great place and that can only happen with honesty...sure I'll do my best to win though. My own goal is more adding muscle, fitness and body beautiful, once I hit that target I'll see what I want from then on..til then I just want to look good.

Maybe put this in a new thread. Can update and keep it simple that way.

Yeah mate, when we know for sure who's participating I'll start a new thread.
I'll be in transit back to Sydney and landing on the 1st of October real early so I'd create it a bit earlier, with an essentially meaningless weigh in. I'd also be falling at least six points behind that actual day as, given that it's my first day back, and the day of the NRL Grand Final, I'll be treating that as a "last meal" scenario before returning to work on the 3rd of Oct. So that'll be some catching up I'll have to do!
But believe me, after the decadent pig I've been through August/September, the motivation is there!

Its a great idea and one I hope to find very useful. You seem to have ut some good thought in to it too already.

On a question of diet do you know of any good diet charts or apps that helps calculate just what exactly you are putting in to your body or do you do it yourself?

Nah dude I keep it really simple.
I used to use a calorie counter, then I quickly learned that I already knew what I should and shouldn't be eating and found that I felt more motivated if I cut that entire process out! But some find it more motivating to use it, so horses for courses! I can try to find the actual one I used to use, but as far as I know there're plenty out there!

Ye I've tried using them before but given up and just gone on what is obviously right and what isn't. I think my reasoning for using one now would be because of certain foods that can catch you out. I love my fruit and eat tonnes of it but obviously that could have certain problems and I was interested in just how much of a problem it could be when compared to the health benefits. Like you say though horses for corses.

One the subject of fruit I was absolutely ravenous one morning on a diet day, and I grabbed a pineapple (fresh, not canned) and I took the thing home, hacked it up and ate the whole fucking thing.
Looked it up after the sugar fiend effect wore off and found out I'd eaten 150g of carbohydrates. :vom So yeah, moderation.
Having googled everything for carb content at least once (I guess that's my calorie counter of choice these days) I've found punnets of berries to be the best, most filling, sugar controlled and vitamin rich of the fruit family!

Having been dieting so strictly for the week preceding the pineapple incident, the obscene amount of fruit acid kicked my face off as well... my glands became swollen and uncomfortable and swallowing was a chore for the rest of the day.

That's the type of madness I end up doing. It's amazing just how much sugar is going in to you when you eat a load of fruit. The big problem is that fruit is nice while most veg is just not ticking anyones box. I can easy eaet a couple of apples, a bannana, chunks of pineapple, peaches, a pair, a dozen strawberries, a load of raisins and half a melon. Compare that with the same amount of broccoli, carrots, peas, cauliflower and the rest and I'd just not bother.

Berries are a good idea. I think it's about eating what you thinking you need othewise if I ate the amount of berries I'd like to eat I'd be equally as fucked as eating a full pineapple.

When we start this thing I'm going to put up exactly what I've eaten and what fitness I've done. The fitness I can decide and be honest if I've done enough or needed to do more. The diet will be good to put up because I can easily see me thinking I've done well, give myself a 3 and in reality I've fucked up by managing to somewhere eating a whole pig and mango grove.

Nice! I'll be going for a 4-5 each day, and I believe that'll bring good results. Any time I can snap a 6 I'll be bloody happy with myself, but time constrains prevent me from doing those workouts as much as motivation ever will. So diet will be paramount!
I'll start the alternative thread within the next few hours!
