Three Girls on BBC. Great three part series about the Asian pedophile grooming gang in Rochdale. Hard hitting, well acted and a great watch.

It wasn't an easy watch and it was maddening how those fuckers got away with it for so long.
But it was a story that needed to be told.
    Dirty sick cunts.

    This Is England 86 - 6/10

I didn't know what to make of this - was it slapstick Benny Hill-style comedy or gritty realism? It was like 2 different shows combined into 1.

I enjoyed it but it was weird how it would switch between goofy matey banter humour & cold psychopathic rape scenes! One minute Sean & Smell are shagging in the pub toilets, the next Lol & Mel's dad's raping their friend Trev.

The ex-con Banjos become a lovable rogue since 84 & Meggy's no longer a nonce-looking fiddling cunt but a bloke the whole gang love - all together now "Awwwww".

Weird but good to watch. Halfway through 88 now.

I agreed with that the first time I watched it, but I think it makes sense. Lots of life is like that. One minute people are dicking about having a laugh and suddenly something bad happens. Other times people hide away issues and terrible things and act all jokey and cool. I think it had some flaws still, and they went a little too hard on the funny stuff to begin with, but I think it is one of the best acted, most hard hitting TV series I've seen. I would give it way more than 6/10.

'88 is not as good, but has an immense performance from Vicky McLure as Lol...and it is very very good. Do not watch '90...it's fucking rubbish and a total let down.

I presume you've seen the film This Is England? As it really is kind of necessary to set up the TV follow ups.

Big Little Lies was ok but hardly a shock at the end.
There's a Kevin Bacon series called "I Love Dick" on my Amazon page but no way am I googling that shit.

The last series I watched on Amazon was Goliath and that seems forever ago.
I only go on to get to Kodi and I'm fucking annoyed this shit is on my homepage.
I don't care if it's an Alzheimer's "against all odds" love story I don't want that kind of vernacular on my home page.

Goliath was utterly forgettable, so was Legion. Most of today's shows are. I'm not sold on the newest season of Fargo either quite yet. Better Call Saul is still solid.

I just can't give S3 of Fargo anywhere near the credit of the first two. It's not engaging,it strays too far too unnecessarily and just lacks the pull of the first two.
No sign of any major improvement this week either.

I do like that off-beat humor and very small town characters, but it needs to start putting the pieces together. With that said, I promised to watch S3 in one sitting, and here I am tuning in every week, so it's on me. Still, I prefer the Sense8/Mozart in the Jungle style of releasing the entire season at once, these are 10-hour movies anyway rather than 12-episode series.

I think Banshee would've been a lot lesser on a week-to-week basis. I also stormed though The Wire, all 5 seasons in 10 days or so  so there you have it. It's meant to be binge watched.

A 7 part ducu(series) about the murder of a nun, I've not started it just yet but it's getting some early buzz being likened to Making A Murderer.

Yeah I've seen the original film & enjoyed it. 86 seemed disjointed to me, hence my rating of 6.

Episode 1 was all panto-type bumbling humour & even Meg's heart attack was jokey, then episode 2 was like it was the actual proper start of the series.

I still enjoyed it & thought the rape dad storyline was good & was wavering between 6 & 7 but went with 6 because of the overall effect (IMO).

I'll watch it again sometime & may rerate it a 7.

I agree in general, I just thought that the latter half was so strong that it warrants a higher score. But I agree that it was a bit too jokey despite the fact that I think moments of humour in something fairly gritty work well. The first two episodes were not directed by Meadows, which I think was a mistake. He took over direction for episodes 3 and 4 and the editor from the film came in for these two episodes too, whereas it was a different editor for 1-2.

That probably explains some of the slightly disjointed feeling. Although I've grown to like the earlier episodes more than I did initially, I think it's a valid criticism. I also thought they tried to force too many of the side characters from the film into these comedy scenes and it often rang a little false. The nympho who was the shoe shop worker from the film...felt contrived. Having the horrible racist Meggy suddenly this lovable idiot who knocks about with the young lads was also weak. This was a man in his 40's during the events of the film, a National Front member who is now the class clown who is good mates with Woody and co? Stupid.

Oasis pilot was cool, a bit (a lot like) Solyaris, but we could do with an existential sci-fi series namsayin.
