Over at Boxing Scene, Paul's date with destiny comes in March by the looks.

Does Smigga finally become a world title holder or join the list of "best British fighter to never win a world title"?.

Smith is worse than Quinlan, I don't understand how he keeps getting opportunities and pay days when he has never had a win above British level

Zeuge ain't bad and should win comfortably enough.

But smith could go the distance and so not blemish his 'reputation' too much.

Smith really could have done with a win or two at british/euro level Inbetween AA and ward bouts.yes he has maximised his earnings and you can see why he is an appealing prospect for a champion to face (sky interest, travelling support, relatively known name, but extremely beatable) but by not dropping down and facing fielding and others he has opened himself up to the ridicule he receives.i don't think he is actually that bad and could have beaten fielding if he performed like he did in abraham 1 (which was a credible performance) however his total lack of notable wins on his record severly damages any respect he has.

He has beaten dodson x 2 and quigley.but lost comprehensivley to Degale, groves, abraham once and ward.thats a solid record for a fighter (along with his contender bout and major am medal) but his belief he is a world level fighter makes people hate him.

He's class Smith, not always a great guy on social networking - he's a lot better then people give him credit for .. watched him up close a few times. He doesn't half get some opportunities though jeez - fair play to him hope he wins it

Paul Smith's career record in 12 round fights: 5-5 with wins against Alexander Polizzi, Rashid Matumla, Tony Quigley & Tony Dodson (twice).

Paul Smith's last 12 round win - March 2010 against Tony Dodson. Callum Smith turned pro in November 2012.

Paul Smith's record in his last 6 fights: 3-3 with wins against Daniel Regi (28-13), Bartlomiej Grafka (17-20-3) & Bronislav Kubin (18-18-2)

He has no significant wins against anyone from outside of Liverpool.

This is a man utterly deserving of not one, not two, but THREE 'world' title fights.

Your right, when he was wiped out by Groves i thought that'd be it for him, he's done well to get the fights he's had since then especially considered who he's fought in the interim.

If he is being told by his promoter that he can get him voluntary title shots if he just hangs around taking the odd 6 rounder then you can't really blame Smith for going along with it. He doesn't have to earn it because he's seen as a soft defence for belt holders out there. I know it's bullshit but you can see it from his view.
