I like your user name mate (and ATG avatar) and thought it was just Rob who got us mixed up, which is ironic when you consider how close his name is to the easily confused @Roe :think1

Good point. @Roe v @Rob definitely seems like the obvious choice. Posting style is very similar as well.

@Chinny, what did you think of "juniors" performance?, do you think he can beat Groves?.. I was impressed by him, he is very athletic obviously fit, but I think that he is a natural middle weight, but only time will tell, hope you wore your "whistle" to Wembley , regards Mervyn The Gee

Mervyn sorry to jump in here but I don't think size will be a problem here. Chris looks a big lad to me and I think will easily grow into the weight. Id say he's certsinly bigger than our mate Terry Downes and he jumped up in weight to fight Pastrano. what do you say?

And I thought he did well Mervyn. Just watched it and he handled Abraham better than most. Him and George Groves would be good, but first Im looking forward to him and the Turkish guy,who looks a bit of a beast. Only thing is,being the pessimist I am,Im not sure he won't be pulled by English out of the competition, which somebody else said would happen. Not guilty. Hope not though as it looks good. Enjoy the beach.

@Boxfan, I am given to understand that it would not be financially viable for him to pull out ,I take your point , yes he is a big lump, but i still think he would be better of at Middle/Weight, Regards Mervyn The Gee

Wins over McGowan, Rose and a competitive loss to a near prime Harada:

54 places below Froch, according to Boxing News.

@lester1583,although I agree with you, I saw the Editor of Boxing News on Box Nation discussing the 100 greatest ratings. He said that it was bound to be controversial, and that he had different rating s for some of the boxers compared to others on the Boxing News team. I saw Alan box on a number of occasions at the Albert Hall1972 Johnny Clarkat the RHA,1970 Jimmy Revie at theEmpire Pool ,1971 , Franco Zurlo, at the RHA, and Walter McGowan in 1966 at the Empire Pool, His record reads 42-8-0, he fought for the World title on Three occasions but unfortunately lost all three, all fought away from home and against three great champions, Harada, Rose, and Olivares, he lost ona split to Rose, TKO to Olivares , and U/D to Harada. He was British/ Empire /and European Champion, Hedied in 2010 aged 68years. To anyone interested there is a display book containing over 100pages of photos and the history of Rudkin. , E/mail address is miles @Boxing history.org.uk, Tel No 07872578596. Thanks for the Rudkin highlights, much appreciated, Regards Mervyn The Gee

Rudkin was a terrific fighter. I think in some cases nowadays with no disrespect to them our guys get handed RELATIVELY easy world title shots . Not so Rudkin. Had to travel thousands of miles for his chances, nothing at all handed to him, against 3 dominant world champions. Id put Harada and Rose about the same level as Jorge Linares, and Olivares as easily better at the time Rudkin lost to him. Walter McGowan DID win a world title, but Id have put him on a par with Alan, and I always say Walter was a mimi version of Ali.
Alans son Al Francis used to post on here. Great guy, great stories, obviously very proud of his Dad.
I dont understand any confusion re @Chinny and @Chatty. Both from solid northern working class roots, but from different parts of the country. Both great posters, but entirely different styles.
