I went back to my gym after a couple of months out to find out that this season every MALE SENIORS bout will be contested without headguards.

Last season only fights for regional belts and seniors with a certain level of experience (don't know the number) contested without headguards, this season due to the new medical opinion that it's safer everybody will compete without.

I for one am chuffed with this, most of our sparring will still be done with headguards, but leading up to a fight and more technical spars will be done without.

I have always found headguard claustrophobic, the heat and poor all round visibility of the headguard coupled with the restrictive mouthpiece can make it a very uncomfortable experience.i admit I've never done a full spar without so can't for sure say I don't find it more painful without but I have done quite a lot of work without where I feel more free and relaxed, this in turn make my breathing more regular and I feel like I show my true form.

    Anybody have opinions? Or experiences?

I had one bout without it. I didn't notice it like 90% of the time tbh. However, the clash of heads was definitely more noticeable. But yeah, I agree, better visibility and the longer 3 minute (vs 2) rounds made for a more technical fight. Who wants to blow their load knowing they're in for a longer round.

Its more comfortable and relaxing while not wearing headgear.. Headgear cause much heat and poor visibility which isn't comfortable for fighter..

The seniors (now called elite 19+) in our club prefer sparring without head guards now and I think their defences will improve without them.
I have noticed a lot more cut eyes on the club shows though !!!

    head guards

I never wore a head guard when I boxed but I can imagine your head would get over heated and that it would impair head movement ???
On the flip side the halls and clubs I boxed in were covered in smoke which was fu##ing awful.
