I could never get into it either, form me the writing just isn't particularly good. Tolkien obviously had an amazing imagination, but the book sucked.

I didn't like it either. I read Fellowship and couldn't hack reading the next books.

Who pushes the show on to who? What kind of weak minded, straw man shit is this? If a show is good I'm gonna recommend it to someone, if they don't wanna watch it "oh well your loss". Who's pushing the show on to anyone?

It's 3am and you're sitting on your own arguing about a fantasy show with a super hero comic avatar.

I wouldn't be too put off by the fantasy stereotype with Game of Thrones. I'm not a fan of fantasy at all and when I read about Game of Thrones initially, I hated the sound of the magic, dragons etc. that people were raving about and I don't think I watched any episodes until the third series had been on TV. However, whilst the fantasy element of the show is pretty significant, it's far from being a typical fantasy show. It's not the core of the show, it's a minor addition that actually fits in well and probably does help the rest of it, which is violent, intelligent, full of twists, lots of drama, romatic stories and everything else you'd expect to see in a historical show.

I can't stand fantasy or sci-fi because too much can happen that's illogical but it's just thrown in for the sake of it, but Game of Thrones isn't like that. It's a brilliant show, the best I've ever seen so whilst I can understand people being deterred from the fantasy stuff as I also was, I would recommend it to anyone.

I agree with this to an extent, but lets not go OTT about how Game of Thrones isn't good versus bad. Daenery's and the entire Stark brood all border on being too nice to be true.

Did you miss the bits where they chop people's heads off, burn people alive and crucify all the nobility?

Yeah, but thats mostly due to upholding the fine, noble traditions of Westeros and/or payback for massive wrongs done to them. Just look at the sexual perverts in GoT; barely one sexual pervert within the Stark/Daenery's crowd, yet The Lannister crowd is fucking full of perverts. I'd just like to see more cuntyness from the good guys in GoT. The show includes some great storytelling, but its not exactly shades of grey.

I dunno, man, I see a lot of grey. Especially with Dany.

Then there's guys like Jaime. Fucks his sister, throws a little kid out a window but then he frees Tyrion and jumps in a bear pit to save Brienne. Jaime is grey as fuck.

Granted there's not much grey with Joffrey, Ramsay or Cersei.

Jaimie was the character I was going to say was the grayest, along with someone like Littlefinger. Stannis was too until he burnt his daughter, then that was the end of him. Most of the others are cardboard cutout heroes or villains. At the moment it's pretty much all the good guys lined up against the bad guys. Im really hoping Daenery's turns half mad. Her insistence Jon bends the knee hints at an intolerance/narcissism in her. I hope this continues. I would have liked a bit more Visery's in her(no incest pun intended).

Mate...why would it take you 5 years to watch 70 hours of TV? If you downloaded it or got the DVD's (if you don't do downloading for whatever reason) and you watched 3 episodes per week...it would take you just over 7 months. And 3 per week is not much time really. But I can see that it seems like a big commitment, and it's not for everyone anyway.
