Beterbiev vs Barrera - sometime this year

For the mandatory position @ IBF. Beterbiev posted what he thinks will happen, with Barrera accepting the fight after guys like Kovalev (rematch), Skoglund and Monaghan passed on the offer/letter.

Yvon Michel acknowledged the need for Artur to fight this one in the US. Stevenson is coincidentally looking to fight in NYC this year too.

Hopefully Ward-Kovalev II can happen before, around the same time or shortly after Beterbiev-Barrera. The IBF letter states that the title holder must face their mando by end of 2017. Curious to see an honest answer from whomever will hold the title in the Fall, probably Ward... may he not retire.....

Beterbiev TKO4

Wait, why the hell would he send Kovalev a proposal for a fight?

Anyways, I hope Beterbiev/Barrera happens. I think it's fucking ridiculous that Stevenson is sitting pretty on the WBC.

You have Ward and Kovalev going through a hellacious schedule of fighting each other back-to-back and then fighting the winner of Beterbiev/Barrera right after.

Because Kovalev sits at #1 @ IBF rankings, just losing his titles recently.

GYM does not want to cannibalize stablemates I suppose. World domination in the division, lol.

Barrera (read 'Kathy Duva') pulled out of a purse bid for the eliminator in the Fall of 2015 because of visa issues with Barrera going into Canada, presuming GYM was going to win the purse bid due to their high budget cards at the Bell Centre.

Barrera will probably get up from a few KDs and be stopped on his feet by the ref, I'm saying around the 4th... could be earlier if Barrera is overly aggressive, we saw in Artur's last fight that his counter straight right is accurate, well timed.

Barrera KO 6. He keeps Bieber at bay for the first 3 rounds using a good jab and movement. He might get caught and even dropped once or twice but once Bieber starts to slow a bit Barrera will start landing big shots often and Bieber will crumble after having taken huge shots from a big puncher after a career of smooth sailing.

I can understand if it was just after the Cloud fight, but he's been scarily consistent in knocking out some good fighters. Knocking out Prieto in 1 round is a hell of a win.

As of this point, I'd say Beterbiev is 50-50 with Kovalev and Ward. I used to strongly favor Kovalev over him after seeing the Johnson fight, but I'm not so sure anymore. I think he hits harder than Kovalev too.

No deal yet though, hopefully the visa issue doesn't prevent the fight... isn't there a purse bid mandated? Duva was in Montreal yesterday and today but Yvon Michel said he "couldn't meet her demands" via twitter. Said the search for Artur's opponent continues. Barrera then called BS and said Michel "never made an offer".

Then this, just now. I'm genuinely in a wtf state of mind about the whole situation.

This is essentially Artur's entry ticket to the big leagues. The Cloud, Campillo, Johnson type of opposition is gone and we have a credible Cuban style puncher here who only lost to Ward. IBF title fight mandated by end of 2017 per IBF's press release.

In terms of name recognition, this is equivalent to Kovalev's fight with Cleverly... three titles just happen to be held by one guy and the other one won't be matched with him (GYM came out and said they won't cannibalize stablemates).

The winner lands on HBO WCB in the Fall/Winter i.e. 10-11 months from now IMO, and we know big Al would have to ok Beterbiev fighting on HBO on a Roc Nation card. That's a bit problematic if Kovalev doesn't beat Ward in a rematch.

Well those were low bids. 251K vs 181K, GYM won the bid.

Barrera to take on Beterbeast for $62,000, as long as it's in the US because Barrera can't fight in Canada due to his criminal record. And for this to take place in the US where GYM doesn't have a license, they need to piggy-back off of a potential Smith-Stevenson fight it seems - that's the deal/no-deal piece.

I think Duva pulls Barrera out of this despite Sullivan wanting the fight, just like last time (Oct '15).

Purse bids should be binding in nature, otherwise they're fukkin pointless...

Do you know that in addition to beating Usyk in the amateurs fighting as a heavyweight, Beterbiev also dropped Usyk with a body shot in one of their fights?
Do you know that Miguel Cotto lost to Kelton Pinto and Mohammad Abdulaev is the amateur? Do I need to tell you what happened in the pros?

Whenever a fan has to talk about a fighter's amateur career it's a lock that there career is going nowhere.

Al Haymon? He makes decisions at HBO now? Lol

LOL the crying in the Quebec based talk shows would never end!! Stevenson is good at landing the straight left on southpaws and Bute's defense + chin are below average at this point in his career. The whole province loves Bute, he'll be a public figure / celebrity there for years to come. To have him put down like a dog by Stevenson, the former criminal the whole province hates because of dramatic articles published in the main news outlets there, would be a PR disaster (or dream, depending on whether you work in the media business in QC). The crying would be directed at GYM/Yvon Michel for having handsome Lucian executed in the ring in a career ender.

Stevenson would have to have an off night and Alvarez would have to box a perfect fight to win.
As a boxing fan from Quebec, I can only attest that I don't want my Lucian anywhere near Stevenson. I mean what's the point ?

If Thomas Williams Jr can hit Stevenson at will and even rattled him, I'd love to see what Bute could do.
I don't want the fight to be annouced, but if it happens I'll be interested for the reason you cite. Bute was able to box with relatively good success against Degale and Jack, so he has the technical skills to outbox Stevenson. That being said, no one can watch his fight against Froch and put any money on Bute to beat Stevenson.

Sure to be one for the fans. . Beterbiev is there to be outboxed by an elite level fighter, but anyone below that (which Barrera falls into), I'd back Beterbiev to steamroll through. Fair fucks to Barrera, he will fight anyone
Everyone is saying this, but I'm not so sure. Beterbiev was an accomplished amateur, and I remember reading he beat the shit out of Usyk. Correct me for sure if I'm wrong on that, though.

Not necessarily. Do you think Ward will just leave the stage for Kovalev to fight Beterbiev if he loses their rematch? I think we're in for Ward-Kovalev III if he loses... whereas if Ward wins the rematch and retires, then we'd get Kovalev-Beterbiev for the vacant belt(s).

No matter what, I don't see Ward entertaining a Beterbiev fight - too little reward for the risk and Ward is padding his wallet at this point, he's happy with his legacy (early 30's, so be it lulz). Beside Stevenson, I don't see who Ward could fight that would generate the $$$ he commands from Roc Nation. Since Al Haymon and RN don't work together anyway, it's kind of pointless to think about Ward vs either of Stevenson or Beterbiev though.
